- - - - Hormones only travel at the same speed that blood flows around the body, and they act slowly.They therefore can't be used for things that need a very quick response.
      - Are used for:
        
        • controlling gradual changes, like growth and sexual development
        
        • Regulating the level of substances in the body.
- - - - • An internal stimulus comes from inside the organism.
        • An external stimulus comes from outside the organism. .
    - - We have five sense organs that detect; eyes, ears, nose, skin and tounge. Those contain receptors, which are special kind of cells that are sensitive to stimul.
      - There are receptors inside our body that detect internal stimuli.
        
        When our body detects a stimulits, it coordinates a response and then reacts. It has two cordinate systems.
        
        • The nervous system
        
        • The endocrine system
        
        These two systems have some similarities and some differences.
- - - - Neurodegenerative diseases are caused when neurons in the brain become damaged or die.
      - Common examples:
        
        Parkinson's disease
        
        Multiple sclerosis
        
        Alzheimer's disease
- - - - Brain: processes the information it recives from impulses, decides what to do, and sends instructuins. Each part has a different function.
        
        The sensory areas: Recive information from sense organs
        
        The motor area: Control muscles
        
        The cerebrum: Is the dome-shape of the brain
        
        The association areas: Is used for thinking and memory
      - Spinal cord: It consist of millions f nerve fibres. It goes from the brain stem down the middle of the back. Its main route for information between the brain and the peripheral nervous system.
  - - - Are special cells that transmit electrical signals the spinal cord. Neurons within the brain or spin containing information.
        
        How does it work?
        
        • The electrical signals are called impulses. Neurons have special characteristics that allow to do this
- - - - If the body temperature starts to increase the body acts to reduce it
      - If the temperature starts to decrease, the body acts to increase.
