Does the student express any behavior of a struggling student?
Yes! :check:
Make note of the patterns and behavior and prepare a meeting with the school resource specialist, and school psychologist if possible. In the meantime, continue to offer differentiated instruction.
Some examples of differentiated instruction:
Allow students to read in conjunction with an audio book
Alter class readings depending on level
Offer delayed deadlines

After submitting a report to the RS teacher...
Consult with the students parents. Be clear and concise with what the student struggles with, while also making sure to mention the student's strengths so parents can know you care about the student as a whole outside of their problems.
Topics to consider:
Have you noticed any of this behavior at home?
Is at-home support possible? (I.e. reading together, discussion together, audio books, etc.)
Medical diagnosis?
After consulting with data, the RS teacher, admins and parents - does the student need an IEP?

Implement differentiated teaching strategies structured for the student and continue to monitor learning progress using achievement data.
Is the student showing improvement, both behaviorally and academically?

Signs of a Struggling Student:
Changes in personality
Lack of focus and engagement
Lack of motivation
Mood swings
Defiance towards teacher
Frustration/crying with material

Although the student may not show
symptoms or signs, be sure to continue monitoring and offering differentiated instruction when possible!
