THE WORLD'S OCEANS
THE WORLD'S OCEANS
Water occupies 71% of its surface. The ocean was formed around 4,000 million years ago.
In each ocean, there are delimited areas, close to the continents or even interiors, which form the regional seas.
-
The oceans’ function determines the climate and is the cause of the divergence of life that exists on our planet
CONTAMINATION
Every year people throw to the sea 6, 5 millions of tons of garbage, 70% of the total wastewater of the planet.
THE PACIFIC OCEAN
The Pacific Ocean, which Ecuador is riparian, it is the oldest, most extensive and deepest in the planet.
-
The relief of its seabed is characterized by a great plain in the depths of its central part and a chain of submerged mountains (the oceanic ridge).
In addition, 90% of the world's active volcanoes, placed just at the edge of the plates, form what is known as the "Ring of Fire of the Pacific"
THE ATLANTIC OCEAN
After the Pacific, it is the second most extensive ocean and occupies 16% of the surface of the Earth.
Pacific are the only oceans that communicate with the other four. In addition to the natural routes (Cape Horn), it communicates with the Pacific Ocean through the Panama Canal
THE INDIAN OCEAN
Its surface represents 20% of the world's marine spaces; its volume is estimated at 292'130,000 km
-
THE ARCTIC OCEAN
-
-
The ownership of the waters of this ocean is very disputed by several powers, it is known that the Arctic has large deposits of natural gas and oil.
THE ANTARCTIC OCEAN
Fishing is prohibited for the most part of the ocean and where permitted, is strictly controlled.
This ocean occupies the fourth place among the five oceans connecting to three of them: Pacific, Atlantic and Indian.
