Self-Report Data: collected when participants gives information to the researcher and provides details of own feelings, thoughts or behaviour. Subjective data.
Open Questions

(+) Produce rich, detailed information - increase internal validity

Strengths
Speed of data collection - quick to complete and can all fo it at the same time - a lot of information in a small amount of time - saves time and money

Researcher bias is unlikely to confound results - no researcher so experimenter bias or researcher effects won't be present.
Closed Questions - Usually straight forward to analyse so it os often easy to compare specific responses to the questions
Open Questions - likely to provide depth, detail, greater diversity of responses and more meaningful information
Limitations
Self-report data may not be valid - socially desirable answers - to be seen in a favourable light - reduce internal validity
Leading Questions - provide inaccurate information - questions can lead to participants to an answer
Misinterpretation - they cannot seek clarification if they are unsure about what is being asked. Answers may be misinterpreted by interviewer
Closed Questions - Quantitative data obtained from closed questions is unlikely to provide depth or detail
Open Questions - Qualitative data is harder to analyse so it is more difficult to compare to specific questions - problematic to make conclusions
