SOLID STATE OF MATTER - Coggle Diagram
SOLID STATE OF MATTER
CRYSTALLINE SOLIDS
Molecular solids
have low melting point
do not conduct electricity
they are soft
Ex: iodine and naphthalene are insoluble in water but soluble in alcohol
Metallic solids
good conductors of heat and electricity
have low to high melting point
have luster, namely they are shiny
Ex:
Ionic solids
hard and brittle
high melting points than molecular solids
poor conductorsof electricity
Ex: potassium bromide (KBr) - potassium and bromine bonded
potassium iodide (KI) - the bond of potassium and iodine
Covalent network solids
have very melting point
nonconductors of electricity
they are very hard
Ex: diamond, graphite and silicon dioxide (silicon(IV) oxide)
AMORPHOUS SOLIDS
There are glass, plastic, and gel solids
has no definite form, either geometric or crystalline
