its the words that represent the actual sound of something (example: bang, boom, meow, drip) all those words can let the reader hear the noice
rhythm
Rhythm is the flow of the beat in a poem, its makes the poem feel like a song You can measure rhythm in meter by counting the beats in each line (example: the dog and the cat, side by side sat)
Personification
Personification is giving human traits and feelings to things that are not human like animals or objects or plants (example: the earth swallowed all my hopes) here they gave the earth a chewing trait even though the earth cant actually chew
rhyme
Rhymes are words that end with the same sound for example: cat, hat, mat, sat, rhyme is also the most common poet device
Alliteration
Alliteration is the repetition of the first consonant sound in words, (example: fair is foul and foul is fair) in this example the "F" was repeated which is consonant sound
metophor
metaphor is the opposite of simile its when we compare two things without using "like" or "as" (example: he was a statue waiting for the news) in this example we didn't use "like" or "as" to compare the man to a statue
hyperbole
its when the poet exaggerates so much in a unrealistic way (example: you are taking forever to get ready) the port exaggerated using "forever" because nothing takes forever to be done
simile
simile is the opposite of metaphor its when we compare two things with each other using "like" or "as" to compare them (example: her smile is as bright as the sun) in this example we used "as" to compare her smile to the sun
imagery
imagery is when a phrase of senates helps the reader imagine what the scene is or what is going on from what is going on while reading the poem, its also when we use our five senses (example: The autumn leaves are a blanket on the ground)
repetition
its the repetition of a word or phrase to prove a point or a statement, it also strengthens the feeling and the ideas in the poem (Example: I gaze up at the sky, I gaze up at the clouds)
