Module 2: Exercise in pregnancy (pre-mindmap)
feelings
always a little overwhelmed dealing with this population (when seen for LBP/pelvic floor)
Consideration of emotion/pressure from the patients perspective (perceived expectations from society)
overview
an area I don't know much evidence about (apart from general advice)
A complex area, with many anatomical and physiological changes to consider
Much progressed view from "confinement" in the 20th Century
difficulties
much of the population I have contact with in my current job role are likely high risk for lifestyle related conditions
ad-hoc interactions with this group in my current role, difficulty consolidating new knowledge
lots of misconceptions within the community around what does/does not constitute safe exercise in this group
facts
highly specialised and unique population group
listing what I do know about pregnancy and Physio; mostly related to continence, DRAM and LBP/SIJ dysfunction. Not much about specific considerations for exercise
Important to consider ICF when working with this population group
opportunities/benefits
a great opportunity to learn about specific conditions, esp. in relation to changes in anatomy + physiology
Know Physio can have a role in preparing for birth (relaxation/breathing, positioning etc.), but not an area I know anything about. Discuss with WH specialist at base hospital, in order to have some basic skills if ever needed
creativity
Use resourceas available; discuss with midwives regarding any spefific conditions in order to understand these more thoroughly
