Contact and Non-contact forces - Coggle Diagram
Contact and Non-contact forces
Non-contact
Don't require two objects two touch.
Example:
Gravitational force
Attracts all other objects to other objects
Electrostatic force
This is the force between two charged objects
Magnetic force
Can be attractive and repulsive
Force experienced by certain objects within a magnetic field
The strength of a force decreases as the two objects get further apart.
Contact
This is where two objects physically touch.
Example:
Friction
Air resistance
Tension
Normal contact force or reaction force
When an object at rest on a surface exerts a force on the surface
example lamp on a table
The lamb is exerting force on the table, that force is its' weight.
The table is exerting an upward force on the lamp, this is what is called normal contact force.
Force = A push or pull. That acts on an object, due to its interactions with another object. Measured in Newtons (N), this is also called magnitude.
Forces also have a direction ie: to the right. This means they are vector quantities.
