"Blame my Brain" - Nicola Morgan
Anorexia nervosa and bulimia are forms of self-harm. They are complicated conditions with lots of different causes and treatments. In very simple terms, anorexia nervosa involves not eating enough to stay healthy; bulimia involves eating large amounts and then making yourself sick to avoid the body absorbing the food.
Sometimes eating disorders arise from thinking that you are fat. But often it is not as simple as that: sometimes it stems from trying to exercise control over the body when everything else in your life seems to be out of control. Most sufferers have very low self-esteem and this can be part of the cause.
