THE WORLD’S OCEANS
-
-
-
-The Arctic ecosystem is very fragile; Its plant resource is the phytoplankton of the sea, because in most of the land nothing grows. Whales, seals, fish live in the open sea.
-The Arctic Ocean, also known as the Arctic Sea, is located around the grounds of the North Pole
-
-On land (covered in ice), live polar bears, musk oxen, hares and arctic foxes.
-Oceans together with rivers and lakes form the hydrosphere; that is to say, the global set of waters of the planet earth. The oceans contain 96% of the liquid water on Earth.
-In each ocean, there are delimited areas, close to the continents or even inland, that make up the regional seas.
-In countries with four seasons it is warmer in summer and colder in winter. The function of the oceans determines the climate and is the cause of the divergence of life that exists on our planet.
-The Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian, te glacial Arctic, the glacial Antarctic.
-When the tectonic plates parted, they divided the five great oceans that we know today:
-If something defines the earth, it is a "blue planet". Water occupies 71% of its surface.
-
-
-Its maximum depth is in the Puerto Rico Este mar trench, which was thought to be the end of the world.
-It is the youngest ocean on the planet and was formed 200 million years ago when the supercontinent Pangea split.
-The Atlantic Ocean stretches from Europe and Africa. After the Pacific, it is the second largest ocean.
-The Atlantic covers several seas known as the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and Norway. The Bay of Fundy and the Silver River.
-
-
-The tectonic plates moving under and around this great ocean make the Pacific the most seismically active region in the world.
-Its latitudinal extension (between the coasts of Indonesia and Peru) is almost half the circumference of the globe, with 19,800 km.
-The Pacific Ocean, which Ecuador is coastal, is the oldest, largest and deepest on the planet.
-In addition, 90% of the world's active volcanoes, located right on the edge of the plates, form what is known as the "Pacific Ring of Fire."
-
-The industrial wastes, the radioactive material (Fukushima), the oil spills (Deepwater Horizon in Mexico) contributed to deteriorate the marine system.
-Every year people throw to the sea 6, 5 millions of tons of garbage, 70% of the total wastewater of the planet.
-Of the 70% of the planet surface that is covered by the oceans, the human beings have just explored a 10%.
-
-At the bottom of the Antarctic Ocean there are deposits of oil, natural gas, minerals, but it could not be extracted because Antarctica is under the protection of many countries that signed conventions for the conservation of marine resources.
-This ocean ranks fourth among the five oceans that connect with three of them: Pacific, Atlantic and Indian.
-The Antarctic glacial ocean, also known as the southern or southern bony ocean, extends from the Antarctic coast up to 60% to the south.
-
-It is the warmest and the one with the most salinity. This ocean is heavily traveled by oil tankers from its sources in the Gulf of Indonesia to the markets of Southeast Asia.
-It bathes the eastern coasts of Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and those of South Asia to the western coasts of the Malay Peninsula, the Sunda Islands and Australia,
