According to Richards, genre is a type of discourse that occurs in a particular setting, that has distinctive and recognisable patters and distinctive communicative functions
Text type
- It does not normally appear to a whole text but rather to parts of it --> the purpose of the text: narrative, descriptive, argumentative, expressive and prescriptive
