Taking a Blood Pressure
- Gather Equipment
- Prepare the patient
- Choose the proper BP cuff size
- Palpate the Brachial Artery
- Place the BP cuff on patients arm
- Use palpation to estimate the Palpated Systolic Blood Pressure
- Position the Stethoscope
- Inflate the Cuff to 30 mmHg above the Palpated Systolic Pressure
- Slowly deflate BP cuff
- Listen for Systolic Reading
- Listen for Diastolic Reading
- Thank the patient, disinfect your arms and record reading.
*Wait for about 5 minutes between readings.
