Grassland

A grassland is a biome, an area of land that mostly has grasses. There are wild grasses, and there may be some trees. Grasslands are found in Africa, North America, Central Asia, South America, and near the coasts of Australia.

There are two main kinds of grasslands: tropical and temperate. Examples of temperate grasslands include Eurasian steppes, North American prairies, and Argentine pampas. Tropical grasslands include the hot savannas of sub-Saharan Africa and northern Australia.

Animals in Grasslands:They have broad, flat-topped teeth and digestive systems especially adapted to feed on grasses. Many have front legs and paws that allow them to burrow into the ground.

Stripes for camouflage, long and powerful legs for running, and strong teeth adapted to a grassy diet are among the most important adaptations of zebras.

Their diet includes seeds, nuts, fruits , buds , leaves, and tall grass, its golden coat which helps it blend into the tall grass. and it's long legs which let it run smoothly to escape predators.

The skin color of the lion camouflages with the yellow color of the grass. This helps them to catch their prey. They have a strong sense of smell which helps them to sense their prey. They have sharp eyesight.

The cheetah has fur that is golden yellow to pale orange in color. This allows the cheetah to camouflage easily in the brown grasslands of the savanna while stalking its prey. Baby cheetah cubs have a mane on their backs, enabling them to blend in with the tall grass in the savanna.

Plants in Grasslands: The plants have deep, spreading root systems that allow them strength and moisture during times of drought

It has a heliotropic head which rotates to follow the sun. The stem of the sunflower has bristles, these are to prevent water loss as well as deter animal predation. The leaves are oppositely positioned leaves and broad to absorb sunlight for photosynthesis.

With built-in resilience to temperature and rainfall fluctuations, when planted in the proper situation, they require minimal maintenance.

It grows best on soils with fine to medium texture that are well drained. It tolerates low fertility and moderately acid soils but has low drought tolerance. It tolerates cold temperatures. Tolerates shade better than most legumes.

Thick, waxy coverings on leaves and stems reduce evaporation. Small leaves reduce the effects of solar radiation and water loss.
