Formative
Definition: Formative assessments are assessments used to gain an idea of students knowledge while still doing lessons and classwork. These types of assements are a way for teachers to see if the way they are teaching is working or if they need to change things.
Example: A exit slip is also a formative assessment because it will students to put information that they learned from a lesson.

Interim/Benchmark
Definition Interim/Benchmark Assessments are assessments that are used periodically throughout a school year that is used to check the progress of how students are doing in each class.
Example: T.A.K.S or STAAR test is a test that are used to gangue students' understanding of the material and decide if they are ready for the next year of learning.
Example: Another example of a benchmark is a quiz that is specifically based a certain chapter or section that is used to see if there are any gaps in the students learning.
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic Assessments are assessments that are used for a teacher to gain an idea of what some of their students' strengths and weaknesses are to better help teach them.
Example: A small questionnaire that students can fill out at the beginning of each unit is a helpful technique that a teacher can use get an idea of what each students knows.
Example: A pretest before the first class begins will also get an idea of what fresh new students know and they don't know at the beginning of the school year.
Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are assessments that are used as way to test students to see what they have learned at the end of each unit of each subject.
Example: A project that is based on the unit as a whole is a good summative assessment because it truly allows the student to show what they have learned in a creative way.
Example: A end of unit test for each unit is a good summative assessment because it allows the teacher to truly see what each student has learned.
Performance
Definition: Performance Assessments are assessments where students must show case their skills verbally or visually instead of actually answering questions.
Example: An example of performance assessment is where students act out a play that goes along with what they are learning.
Example: Another example would where students could have to perform a speech describing something they have learned in class.
