Formative
This assessment is used to assess students knowledge on the current instruction, and concept being taught. This type of assessment is typically given through the lesson, to provide feedback to the teacher.
Exit ticket: students will be given a question that relates to the instruction just taught. Typically this is a short answer question in order to guide instruction.
Pretest: a pretest is given before instruction, that is a set amount of questions that pertain to the lesson about to be given. This helps guide the teacher in order to figure out what the students know and do not know.

Summative
This assessment measures a students ability and achievement at the end of a set amount of instruction.
Final exam: This type of summative assessment is a cumulative assessment, that assessed student knowledge of a large amount of their learning throughout a certain period of time(ex. a seam eater of learning).
Research Project: A research project is given at the end of a unit or period of time, where the students have the opportunity to apply what they learned through the unit, into a project.
Performance
This type of asessment evaluates student performance without using standard methods such as questions and answers.
Poetry slam: students are required to create their own poetry piece based on the content learned during class. They will read it allowed to the class.
Science Fair: Studenrs are given a unique opportunity to share with the community, the content and concepts the student learned. They will do this by using research methods, poster boards, and presentation styles, in order to showcase their research
Diagnostic
This type of asessment examines students strengths and challenge areas, in order to better give instruction before the lesson begins.
KWL chart: students on a chart will write what they already know about the concept about to be taught, what they want to know, and after learning the concept they will fill in what they learned. This is a great tool to understand where students might have misconceptions or need further help before teaching.
IRI: An informal reading inventory allows the teacher to gather information about a students reading level, language development, or comprehension skills while reading. This allows the teacher to understand what the student needs, in order to create accurate intervention strategies.
