Causes
Danish king creates new constitution making Schleswig part of Denmark. Prussia, allied with Austria, demands the king create a new constitution, redrawing the boundaries and removing Schleswig from his territory, by January 1863. The Danish king, under the false impression he would have support from France and Britain, rejected the ultimatum. Therefore, Austria and Prussia went to war with the Danes, who were quickly defeated.
Outcomes:
Treaty of Vienna was enacting, founding the creation of Schleswig-Holstein under Prussia and Austrian control. Schleswig was in the control of Prussia, and Holstein with Austria. This arrangement left Prussia in a bad position geographically with the Austrians. Established German dominance over German-speaking territories
