Formative
Definition: Formative assessments involve the process of gathering evidence of learning. These assessments serve to adjust instruction and are low stake.
Four Corners: Students stand in the center of the room. Each corner is assigned a multiple choice letter, A, B, C, and D. Ask a question and have students move the corner of the room that represents the answer students believe is the correct answer.
3-2-1 Exit Slips: Students list three things that they learned two things they found interesting and one question they still have on a small sheet of people.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Periodic assessments through the year. These assessments are more formal and serve to assess students if they are on track with their learning.
STAAR: Texas specific interim assessment to assess knowledge learned in specific grades.
MAP: computerized adaptive test to help make informed decisions in regards to students' achievement.
Summative
Definition: Assessment used at the end of a unit, high stakes and high grade value.
Midterm Exams: Exams given in the middle of the year to determine if students have learned the required material.
Speech/Oral Report: students give an oral report to demonstrate knowledge of required material.
Performance
Definition: Performance assessments require students to perform a task rather than answer questions correctly.
Summary Song: Students create a song summarizing what they learned about a topic to demonstrate their knowledge.
Wax Museum: Students dress as and act as a historical figure to demonstrate the knowledge they have gained of that figure.
Diagnostic
Definition: a type of pre-assessment to determine students' strengths and weaknesses as well as their misconceptions if any.
Running Records: A way to assess and evaluate students' current reading level and any concepts they may be struggling with.
KWL Chart: Avid Strategy to determine what students may already know about a topic.
