Definitions I Don't Know CH3

Igneous rock: lava rock, Metamorphic rock: heat/pressure

Ecotone: transitional region between ecosystems

Biotic Community: groups of populations in natural area

Linnaean Taxonomy: Classify by category, differentiates close speceis

Ecology: study of dist and abundance of org and processes that influence this

Definitons I Don't Know CH4

J-curve: exponential, S-curve: logistic

Biotic Potential: number of offspring in ideal conditions

Density Dep: limits increase as pop density increases

Density Ind: pop limited by abiotic factors regardless of number

Bottom-Up Regulation: control of pop due to resource scarcity

Selective Pressure: environ resistance factors

Top-Down regulation: control of pop by predation

CH7 Cool Facts

Humans need to do out part in restoring ecosystems. We can stop removing things that should not be removed, stop destroying habitats, and ensure that species do not go extinct due to our negligence

Aquatic Succession: soil particles eroded from land or plant detritus built up in ponds or lakes

Secondary Succession: cleared by fire or other factors, left alone, reinvaded by other plants and animals from another ecosystem

Primary Succession: lacking plants and soil is initially invaded by plants when soil comes

Chemotroph: use inorganic materials to make energy

Emerald Ash Borer is massive problem

When an invasive species get a foothold in a region, they should be killed in order to save the local ecosystem and prevent any loss of biodiversity

Invasive Species: organisms not native to areas that cause environmental damage

Biodiversity is declining

Biodiversity is dimensional

Biological Wealth: biota and their ecosystems and consists of instrumental and intrinsic value

Deforestation has a direct relationship to loss in biodiversity: as more of the habitat is destroyed, more species will either migrate away or go extinct

CO2 emissions negatively effect climate. Climate change is occurring because of the carbon footprint left by humans. Global weather is being effected.

We can take proper steps to slow these processes and preserve more life on Earth.
