In Evicted, the stories of several tenants are shared throughout the book. Their perspectives are placed in contrast to those of the landlord. One of the tenants, Lamar is sadly a perfect example of how the poverty trap plays into the lives of poor people and their perpetual state of poverty. Throughout Lamar's story, he tries to make up for his financial failures, partly due to his disability, by working off some of his debt but his landlord sees this as greedy. "He's a player that's all he is. Time for him to go...They just try to take, take, take, take, take." It is evident that although poverty is a cycle and Lamar may have fallen on the left side of the s-curve, his disability checks were just barely enough to get by and this is one indication of the need for more services for people in situations like Lamar's
