FORMATIVE
Definition: A formative assessment is an in process evaluation to gather evidence of student learning used to adjust instruction to ensure mastery of a concept
Think Pair Share: The teacher asks a question and allows students to think for a moment. Students then pair up and discuss their answer with a partner. Pairs will then share out with the rest of the class.
3-2-1 Exit ticket: Students write down 3 things they learned. 2 things they liked about the topic and 1 question they still have.
SUMMATIVE
Definition: Summative assessments are given at the end of a large chunk of learning to evaluate student learning. They are usually worth more than formative assessments.

INTERIM/BENCHMARK
Definition: Interim/Benchmark assessments are given at different intervals throughout the year to see where students are at in their learning and determine if they are at the level they should be.
STAAR: The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness used to evaluate students learning and progress at the end of a grade level.
MAP testing: The Measure of Academic Progress is a computerized test to assess a student's academic growth.

DIAGNOSTIC
Definition: Diagnostic assessments are given at the beginning of a unit/lesson to determine student knowledge, misconceptions, and skills.
KWL Charts: A three columned chart that has students list what they already know about a concept, want to know, and what they have learned at the end of the lesson/unit.
Running Records: Assessments to assess a student's reading level and areas in reading in which they struggle or excel.
