Homeroom Representative -- Approaches for Change
Listening and considering the concerns of other students.
Consideration of current situation
Is there already a solution?
Is the student concerned with something that is not relevant anymore (an issue which has already been ameliorated or considered)?
Do other students express the same concern?
Analysis of the concern's realisability
Can the concern be taken into consideration by the student-body soon (in upcoming meetings)?
Is the concern realistic (can the student-body truly make a change)?
Analysis of the concern through the S.M.A.R.T format (Is the concern
s
pecific,
m
easurable,
a
ttainable,
r
elevant,
t
ime-based?)
Presenting the issue(s) to homeroom representative meetings.
Dedication and consistency
Always attend meetings on time.
Always be actively involved and always seek to hear other student concerns from other homerooms.
Always present the concerns advocated by my homeroom.
Relatibility and applicability
Seek to find other homerooms which relate in terms of concerns (do other homerooms express the same concerns?)
Instead of dictating or forcing the issue onto a meeting, aim to encourage discussion and active debate with other representatives and higher-ups of the student-body. This can lead to more effective brainstorms in terms of finding solutions.
Pushing for change and reporting back to my homeroom.
Engaged involvement for change
Always be motivated and engaged.
Suggest potential solutions for my homeroom's concerns (as well as for the concerns of other homerooms).
If a problem cannot be solved fully, always seek to negotiate and compromise some forms of solutions and improvement.
Transparency with my homeroom
If anything has been determined or changed consequently to a meeting, present the news to the homeroom.
Send monthly (or trimester-based) emails to the homeroom to give any updates.
Always find 'follow-ups' -- any other concerns which derive off of past issues.
