He seems to know everything that had happened, at points acting as a storyteller for the missing links in Eva Smiths story.
When it comes to the personal actions of the characters he encourages them to tell there own story and to assess their own part in her suicide
Never pinpoints one character has being responsible, rather he links each character together to show they all played a part
He recognizes that Sheila and Eric show remorse for their actions, he also accepts that Gerald "Had some affection for her and made her happy for a time".
His attitude to Mr and Mrs Birling is more condemning. He tells Mrs Birling "I think you did something terribly wrong", he also bushes aside Mr Birling protests at the way he is questioning Mrs Birling he says "Don't stammer and yammer at me, man. I'm losing all patience with you people"
He believes in justice for everyone and he outlines the importance of social responsibility, he also outlines the consequences to those who don't learn saying "a time will come where those who do not learn the lesson will be taught it in fire and blood and anguish"
