When and where to write
According to 1 Thessalonians 3:1-2, while Paul was in Athens he sent Timothy back to Thessalonica to encourage the believers there. This would have been around the year A.D. 49 or 50, shortly after Paul and his company had left Thessalonica. When Timothy returned, probably in A.D. 50 or 51, Paul was most likely in Corinth.
Letters of Paul to the Thessalonians, also called Epistles of St. Paul the Apostle to the Thessalonians, abbreviation Thessalonians, two New Testament letters written by St. Paul the Apostle from Corinth, Achaea (now in southern Greece), about 50 ce and addressed to the Christian community he had founded in Thessalonica (now in northern Greece).
Why to write
When Timothy rejoined Paul in Corinth, he had good news: despite intense persecution, the Christians in Thessalonica were standing firm in the faith. Thus, Paul's primary purpose for writing the epistle was to encourage, comfort, and strengthen the church.
Timothy's report of conditions in the Thessalonian church led Paul to write the first letter shortly after he arrived in Corinth about A.D. 51. Some of the Thessalonians apparently believed that Jesus Christ was about to return momentarily and had consequently given up their jobs and had become disorderly.

But you bare not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.

my reflection and applications
Can I see the future?
what vision I have?
do i believe the day of Christ Jesus in the second come?
do I know the coming of Jesus Christ? what does it mean to me now?
How I treat brothers in Jesus Christ?
How I respect those who worked for the Lord?
How I live now? sleeping or being drunk as others? am I living in day or light? or living with faith, love and salvation? do I pray to God? do I give thanks to God?
Do I rejoice in the Lord? Do I listen and respond to the Spirit?
am I awake? or asleep in my assumptions or the evil schemes?
