some critics said it was "dizzying" and "all over the place", "the spin off no one asked for", people didn't understand the writing, some parents thought it was inappropriate (sex scenes) as doctor who was targeted at children.
Uses and gratification
Personal identity. The characters reflect the target audience from their appearance, mannerisms and lifestyle (school). Also the characters are diverse meaning the audience can relate to at least one character.
Entertain. The shows purpose is to entertain the viewers by using special effects, camera angles/ positioning, an interesting narrative by making the characters have different backgrounds and personalities. Additionally, people who are fans of the sci fi/ supernatural genre will enjoy class.
Social interaction. The shocking plot that leaves the audience on a cliff hanger creates conversation. Also people who are fans of doctor who will like the spin off.
Intertextuality - doctor who is in ep1, tardis makes an appearance in ep1, Coal Hill School - unearthly child.
Equilibrium - April is presented as scared and concerned at what's happened. She is at school with ram
Disruption - The dad returns wanting to speak to April.
Recognition - When April realises when she is pointing a sword at her dad.
Reparation - By controlling her aggression/ shadow kings personality and deciding to jump through the portal in the back garden with ram following.
New equilibrium - April goes to get her heart back and ram jumps with her leaving her friends shocked.
