Plot
A teacher in a small town named Hillsboro is charged with teaching evolution. He is going to go on trial. America's second most powerful man named Matthew Harrison Brady is coming to this small town to aid the prosecution. The town is a God worshipping town and are grateful that such a powerful man is coming to defend their fate. So, they hold a big parade to welcome him. There will we learn that the defense' attorney is Henry Drummond. The town are not very worried that an attorney with a scary reputation is coming to their town because Brady is with the prosecution. However, the Reverend does not want Drummond to be allowed into the town even if there is no legal way they can use to prevent him from doing so.
The trial begins, it is a very heated battle and Brady has the advantage since both the judge and the law are on his side. There is no way he can lose unless he makes a big mistake. Brady calls a few witnesses of his own and he is almost sure to win. It is Drummond's turn but the judge does not allow him to call his witnesses saying their testimonies would be irrelevant. At this point Brady definitely thinks there is no way he can lose so when Drummond calls him to the stand as an expert witness of the Bible he accepts even though he does not know what Drummond will ask him.
