The Connection Between the Mind and Body Through Yoga
The Benefits of Meditation through Yoga
I find myself in much more of a relaxed state, with a clear mind and more positive outlook on everything
The responses that the body has as well as the mind has when introduced with meditation.
Ways in which meditation can impact your body
I am interested in this topic because the way that yoga and meditation makes me feel is incomparable to anything else.
The connection between the body and mind with the use of meditation in yoga
Advances my body and mind experiences
I feel as if my project will be able to teach others that when dealing with every day stressors and activities- our minds and bodies get very out of touch with ourselves. And through meditation and yoga we are able to reconnect with ourselves- physically and mentally.
The human nervous system
Controlled Breathing
why our bodies respond in such ways when we practice yoga and meditative aspects such as deep breathing.
Through research I have learned a ton about our bodies nervous systems, and the ways in which they affect our cognitive functions as well as our behaviors.
biological perspective
Biological perspective
Controlled breathing- allows us to take the first step in connecting the body and mind. Our breathing sends signals to our nervous systems- telling them to either relax, or go full force. Our breathing also sends signals to our respiratory system which allows our bodies to physically relax, or stand guard.
Bodily Responses
Sympathetic nervous system “SNS”
Parasympathetic nervous system “PNS”)
The contribution of biological aspects focused around the central nervous system
Yoga did not only ground me and my relaxed mind, but it had given me a challenge to use my body while doing so.
I am able to understand why (from my personal experiences) my bodily responses are what they are- when in a state of meditation
The use of the body, in addition to the intense challenge to mentally relax all on my own was really eye opening.
Desired bodily responses in relation to the mind
If our body is not connected with our mind it makes it almost impossible to act reasonably or appropriately in any given situation.
Desired bodily response- By understanding the bodily responses we want to achieve through yoga and meditation, we are able to better understand WHY we feel this way, and what actions we do take in order to feel the way we do in a meditative state.
Practicing yoga and mediation can help one reconnect with their body and process every task (whether that be mentally or physically) efficiently, on a ground, rational and reasonable level.
Throughout our days we may become very stressed and lose what is most important to us
How Yoga Impacts ones Mentality
To the relaxed mind
The ways in which you move correlate with the way you breathe, which all connects to the personal sense of relaxation felt afterwards
Relaxation of the mind
Once I started to meditate alone, I had discovered a way to ground myself and really relax.
This relationship is very important because throughout our days we may become very stressed and lose what is most important to us
eventually able to clear my mind totally and really focus on my bodily responses to the relaxed mind
practicing yoga and meditation can help one reconnect with their body and process every task (whether that be mentally or physically) efficiently, on a ground, rational and reasonable level.
better understand ways to control and achieve these euphoric/ positive feelings you achieve from meditation and yoga and WHY they happen
Additional Thoughts
I have always struggled with centering myself and finding peace and comfort in my current state- i was never able to really focus on how to rid my mind of these intrusive negative thoughts and feelings
When i had first started meditating, i had really struggled with having to clear my mind and turn my attention to what is currently happening, rather than thinking about all of the thoughts constantly running through my mind
This information really adds to my understanding and perspective of the connection between the mind and body through meditation because it gives more of a biological perspective
From there, I had given yoga some thought, it was always something I had wanted to experiment with and explore.
My perspective is important when it comes to the relationship you have between your body and the mind since everyone has a different understanding of their own relationships that is specific to them.
Yoga just brought the euphoric sensations I had experienced through meditation to a whole new level.
I feel as if these three factors are the most important because they are the aspects that my topic is built off of.
I feel as if my amplifying my experiences, as well as exploring others experiences in this same area will give others who may be unfamiliar with the topic a real sense of “hmm, maybe this is something I should try out.”
I feel as if I can use the knowledge that I have gained from my personal experience in yoga and meditation, as well as the biological information and studies I have evaluated in my sources to advance my body and mind experiences.
The ability to understand and retain the information about my topic comes from personal experience and factual information which are drawn from studies and experiments surrounding the relationship between the mind and the body- and what sensations you recieve when practicing yoga and meditation.
This topic should matter to others who want to achieve this sense of connectedness between their mind and body
The three aspects which I state are the most important part of my topic; Relaxation of the mind, controlled breathing and desired bodily responses in relation to the mind- should matter to others because these aspects are just the basis of understanding one's relationship between the body and mind.
