Electricity and direct current circuits
Electricity. Electrical energy
Electric current: Is the flow of electrons from one atom to another inside a conductive material
Atoms
Protons (Positive charge)
Neutrons (nuetral charge)
Electrons (negative charge)
Electricity: Is a form of energy that less nagatively charged particles that move from one atomto another
Electric circuits. Components
An electric circuit is a series of interconnected components that an electrical current flows throught (like light)
Power sources: components that supply the necessary electrical energy to the rest of the circuit in order to move electrons. the generators are cells and batteries.
Conductors: components that transport the electrical energy. the conductives components of a circuit are the wires.
Load devices: components that recive the electrical energy. examples of load devices in circuits are, motors, lamps,...
Control devices: devices that regulate the circuit. the main types are: one-way switches, push switches and two-way switches.
Converting electrical energy
Heat: When electrons through a conductor, they create friction with the material as they pass through, which produce heat
Motion: We can make electricity into motion using a motor
Light: We can make electricity into light through load devices
Sound:We use to trasmit sounds throught micosphones and produce sound effects
Conductors & Insulators
Insulators: Not let electricity current flow throw them
Conductors: let electricity current flow throw them (Like tin)
open circuit, closets circuits and short circuits
:lock: Closed circuit: the electric curret flows and reaches the lamp to light it (the lamp is it)
Short circuit: occurs when the electric current is transported by the wires passing throught a load device (
:unlock: Open circuit : the electric current does not flow (the lamp is not lit)
Types de circuits; the circuits can have different characteristics depending on how we arrange the load devices
Series circuits: in these cirucuits, all the components are connected one after the other. the current flows throught all the load devices. If one load device stop, none one of them will work.
Parallel circuits: in thes these circuits, the load devices are connected on differet branches of the wire. there are several possible paths for the electric current to flow throught. if one of the loa devices stops working, the rest continue working.
Series-parallel circuits: these circuits contain devices connected in series and in parallel. in this case, the circuits have properties of bothseries circuits and parallel circuits.
Component of a circuit
Resitor: Make into hea energy
Batery: Group of cells
Cell: Suplies electrical energy
Lamp: Make electrical energy to light energy
Buzzer: Make electrical energy to sound energy
Motor: Make electrical energy to kinetic energy
Energy and the enviroment
Enviromental impact of energy production and trasmission
Electrical energy is generated industrially in power station thet convert into other type of energy
This changed have impact on our enviroment becouse they pollute. The use of renewable energies is being prometed as a green alternative
Responsoble use of electrical energy: when we save energy, we save money. that is why we need to consume responsibly.
Here are tips on responsible energy use.
Replace old electrical appliances with more efficient ones( that consume less energy) labelled "class A".
Replace incandescent bulbs with low energy bulbs.
Use certain domestic appliances(like washing machines, tumble dryers,...) only when they are full.
Always switch off electronic equipment(televisions, video games,...) instead of leaving them in standby mode, wich continues to consume energy.
