Summary + Setting
J.R.R. Tolkien was an Englishman deeply saddened that by the fact that England had no mythology- so he created his own mythology for England. Thus Middle-Earth is born- complete with a creation story, a story of the fall, and the tale of the transition between Middle-Earth and the world we live in today.
Worldview
We need to realise that Tolkien was a Catholic. This definitely influenced his writing. Yet at the same time Middle Earth is a Christian book.
Some Christians have been put off by the magic seen in the books, and wizards, and such. We see that Tolkien does not want us to see it like that (i.e Gandalf isn't really a wizard- he is just a valar (lesser angel).
