Ductus Arteriosus - Coggle Diagram
Ductus Arteriosus
-
Development
The proximal portions of the sixth pair of embryonic aortic arches persist as the proximal branch pulmonary arteries (Schneider & Moore, 2006)
distal portion of the left sixth arch persists as the ductus arteriosus (Schneider & Moore, 2006)
connects the left pulmonary artery with the left dorsal aorta (Schneider & Moore, 2006)
8 weeks-distal right sixth aortic arch loses its connection to the dorsal aorta and degenerates (Schneider & Moore, 2006)
distal left sixth embryonic arch normally persists and becomes the PDA (Schneider & Moore, 2006)
right ventricular output is diverted away from the high-resistance pulmonary circulation in fetal circulation (Schneider & Moore, 2006)
After birth, PGE levels drop because of the new functioning lungs, causing closure of the ductus (Schneider & Moore, 2006)
premature closure can lead to hydrops or right sided heart failure (Schneider & Moore, 2006)
