- - - - Meet with parents and discuss course of action at home and at school.
        
        Continue monitoring and collecting data while implementing the agreed on differentiation strategies.
        
        If necessary create an action committee including parents, student and special educators to help determine students needs and develop an IEP. At this stage professionals can potentially diagnose student with a learning disorder pending parent approval.
        
        Follow though on IEP with monthly action committee updates to parents on student progress. Keeping communication open.
        
        Annually review and revise program as needed with the action committee.
        
        6 months may prove to be a better re-evaluation interval especially in the beginning but at minimum reviews should happen annually.
        
        Committee should meet more frequently perhaps every other week to stay on the same page between briefings.
        
        Program must be carried out long enough to see any effects manifest but maintain some flexibility if there needs to be changes.
        
        All teachers of the student need to be aware of the plan and have support in knowing how to implement it.

        If extra attention and parental involvement does not seem to be enough there may be a learning disorder at play.
        
        Professionals in child development and learning disorders are crucial for the committee.
        
        In the case of a disorder a more specific or in depth program may need to be implemented.
        
        I believe it's important to have the child involved at all times especially at this stage. Encouragement and support to make sure they don't feel uncomfortable or insecure is really important. The environment should be supportive.

        Extra office hours, parents taking time to help with reading, parent teacher conferences etc...
        
        Differentiation such as flexible reading and writing assignments, alternative projects/ group work...
      - Parents should be involved as soon as it becomes clear there is a problem that cannot be fixed with basic differentiation methods.
