How could using a balance in research and reporting tactics have made a difference in the outcome of what was reported?
I don't think going in that they were expecting this to be a big controversy, but any sort of documentation would go a long way in determining what happened.
Prior research could've been done by Logan that showed exactly what was said during the F.B.I hearing.

There were many lies, Karen DeYoung's post could have had inaccurate information.
Once the politicians got involved, they were coming hard after Davies.
What is your opinion about the issue, and what caused you to form that opinion?
I believe Lara Logan did a poor job on this interview. It seemed like she was on Davies side by looking impressed at something he did.
If Karen DeYoung's report was accurate, which is impossible to tell from the article, then I believe Davies is 100% attached to what took place.
Davies told two different stories, admitted to being a hero, and didn't ask to have his name be public in the interview.
