FIRST GENERATION
The poets of the first generation wanted to theorise about poetry. They were influenced by the French Revolution and supported its ideals of equality and freedom. They are focused about reality and nature, on particular about aspect of objects, people and events. They also focus about the beauty of nature and ordinary things.
SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE
Born in 1772, Coleridge was another important poet. He narrates about the connection of supernatural with real. Nature is not a guide, but it's the reflection of the real, and it's also important for poet's creativity. His most important work was "The Rime of an Ancient Mariner".

WILLIAM WORDSWORTH
Born in 1770, Wordsworth was one of the most important poets of first generation.
He wrote the Manifesto of English Romanticism. For him, poetry was a solitary act, originating in the ordinary. He wanted to theorise poetry. He planned to write Lyrical Ballads with Coleridge, and in this work he would talk about nature and everyday things. In his preface he explained that language should reflect poetry: as he talk about everyday events, language was simple. Primitive men were near to pure passions.
According to Wordsworth, man and nature are inseparable, and nature is good for man. He had a pantheistic view of the world, and nature was source of pleasure and joy. Memory is important in poet's mind, in fact childhood was very important.
DAFFODILS
Here the poet shows his love for nature; nature makes him joyful and calm. He underlines solitude but also company with nature.

The poets of second generation had the political disillusionment because of the failure of French Revolution, and this aspect was clear in their works. In fact there is a clash between ideal and real. They underline the alienation of the artist from society: lots of the second generation poets were anti-conformist and rebellious, and often died young and away from home. Individualism and escapism were characteristics of these poets.
PERCY BYSSHE SHELLEY
He was born in 1792, and he is one of the second generation poet. He often made bad propaganda aginst chatolicism. French Revolution Ideals were already exhausted. He loved science and experiments.
ODE TO THE WEST WIND
Wind was the generating force of nature. It destroys but it also preserves. There is the death theme. There are similarities with Leopardi, for example when sea meets the wind.

JOHN KEATS
Keats's poetry is like a continual spiritual autobiography. There is no sense of mistery or pantheistic vision.
