Stating Aims
Hypotheses
A research hypothesis is a general prediction about what the researcher expects to happen or find out in an investigation
-
-
Directional Hypotheses
-
They are used when previous studies have shown a similar effect and the researcher can therefore be confident that the same results will be found.
-
-
Null Hypotheses
Written like non-directional hypotheses but predict there will be no difference between the two conditions of the IV in relation to the DV.
Used when previous studies have not shown similar effects or there is no previous reserch and therefore, the researcher is not conifdent about the outcome of their one study.
Operationalisation
Clearly specifying and defining the behaviour. This enables the researcher to measure the behaviour under investigation and means that other researchers can replicate the exact procedure to asses the reliability of the results.
Aim
An aim is what the research investigation is trying to discover. It is related to the research question a researcher is trying to answer.
An aim is a precise statement of why the study is taking place where as, a hypothesis a precise testable statement that is accepted or rejected at the end of the study.
