Jovian and Terrestrial Planets
Terrestrial Planets or better known as the inner planets are the four planets closet to the Sun: Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars.
Mercury and Venus do not have moons, Earth has one, and Mars has two.
The inner planets have shorter orbits around the Sun, and they all spin more slowly.
These planets are all made of cooled igneous rock with iron cores. - Made of rock and metal.
Unlike the outer planets, inner planets have no rings surrounding them.
Mercury is the smallest inner planet with the diameter of 3031 miles.
inner planets have greater density; the elements are more closely packed together causing them to be smaller.
The atmosphere of the inner planets vary from planet to planet; Mercury has no atmosphere, Venus's atmosphere is mostly carbon dioxide, and Earth's atmosphere is mostly nitrogen.
Inner planets orbit the sun at a faster rate than than outer planets. Inner planets spin slower compared to outer planets
Jovian Planets or better known as the outer planets are the planets farthest from the Sun: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
These planets are much larger than the inner planets and are made primarily of gases and liquids.
Jovian Planets are also known as the gas giants.
The gas giants are made up primarily od hydrogen and helium, the same elements that make up most of the Sun.
The Sun and the massive outer planets had enough gravity to keep hydrogen and helium from drifting away.
ALL of the outer planets have numerous moons. They ALL also have planetary rings, composed of dust and other small particles that encircle the planet in a thin plane - mostly made of water ice,
The outer planets spin faster than inner planets.
Outer planets have rings that orbit them; the rings are thin discs of dust and rock.
Most of Jupiter is made up of hydrogen
Saturn is mostly made of Hydrogen
Neptune and Uranus are all also made up of hydrogen
In the atmosphere of Uranus and Neptune there is methane around which is what makes the planets blue.
A metallic hydrogen mantle gives a rise to strong magnetic fields on Jupiter and Saturn
Saturn has the most visible ring system of any of the planets.
The inner and outer planets are separated by the Asteroid belt in the middle of Mars and Jupiter.
The asteroid belt is a region of asteroids orbiting the sun.
