- - - - Geographical and political changes within countries (after wars)
        
        After each major war in the 20th century, the map got rewritten due to peace treaties, resulting in the world map, especially Europe, changing drastically.
        
        This resulted in many integrations of different cultures, including music.
        
        For example: Debussy's fascination with gamelan music and how it influence his music (as shown in one of his works "Pagodes": )

        After WWII, many Asian countries which were under colonial rule saw the weaknesses of the westerners shown to them by the Japanese, and wanted independence. By the 1950s, most of the countries under colonial rule were now independent.
      - Wars

        In World War II, in order to defeat the Japanese, the atomic bomb was invented
        
        Nuclear power became a force to be reckoned with, and still remains a threat today, causing many to be afraid of a World War III that would cause the world's entire population to be wiped out.
        
        Cold War
        
        During the Cold War, Russia and the United States had an arms race that resulted in many inventions and technological advancements. The biggest example would be their competition in space travel: Russia managed to reach space first, but the United States landed on the moon first, claiming that honour.
        
        During wars, many inventions are necessary to give countries an edge over others. During World War I, because of the need for communication between soldiers and troops, the radio was invented. Eventually, this would result in more forms of mass communication, changing the world forever.
  - - - The Industrial Revolution in the 18th-19th century was a major game-changer, inventing steam engines and eventually other more efficient means of transport that can carry passengers on longer distances in shorter periods of time such as cars and airplanes. As a result, transport in the 20th century was readily available for most, making it easy to move from place to place. Globalisation was getting more and more popular, and cultures, including music, were being influenced and affected by each other more and more.
        
        People from other countries would bring their own music to another country they're travelling to, and these different cultures would end up influencing each other.
        
        For example, the Africans brought their music with them when they were enslaved and brought to America, until in the 20th century, their culture influenced the Americans' to form a whole new genre called Blues.

    - - Radio (like mentioned before
        
        After it was released into the mass market, it became such a big hit that the television was invented next -- basically the same but but in colour.
        
        However, there was a significant limitation to the radio and the television. There was no way to control the programme, nor was it a two-way communication. Information was broadcasted to you, but you can't comment or say anything back to it. This was why the Internet was such a game-changer for the world after the radio and the television.
        
        The internet gave us a chance to be a producer as well as a consumer, and at any time, and any place. It gave us the freedom and flexibility of time, and the ability to speak out for for ourselves, making things a lot more convenient for us. The internet is open 24/7, and allows us to access the same places as those in different continents, hence allowing us to conquer the challenge of space as well.
