Chemicals
Key Experement :red_flag:
Preparing Stock Solution
Serial Dilution
Mix IAA & Ethanol
Mix that with Water
Fill a small beaker with the stock solution
take 1ml from that beaker
add it to the next beaker
dilute that beaker with 9ml of water
1 more item...
Put a grid of graph paper on a acetate sheet
Place 5 cress seeds across the centre of the dish
put a layer of filter paper on top of the dish
Place 2.5ml of an IAA solution on the dish
cover with a layer of cotton
place the lid on
tape it closed
repeat 8 times with different solutions
When all dishes are prepared
flip them on their sides
This causes geotropism
Leave dishes in a warm place for 2-3 days
Interpreting the data
check which seeds have the most growth
The IAA causes............
roots to grow longer
To a point
Roots are more sensitive
Shoots are less sensitive, but benefit more
Shoots to grow longer
Growth Regulators
Growth Promoters
E.g Auxins
Indoleacetic Acid
IAA
Made in the Meristem
Defuses through the stem
Causes stem to elongate
Causes stem to grow towards lights
Effects of Auxins
Tropism
Apical Dominance
Grows upwards & prevents lateral growth
Fruit Formation
Root formation & growth
Growth Inhibitors
Ethene
ripens fruit
causes aging
leaves fall off
Stimulus
Is anything that causes a reaction in an organism
Response
is the activity of a cell/organism as a result of a stimulus
Tropism
is the change in growth of a plant in response to an external stimulus
