Reasons of the French Revolution
Bankruptcy
Aggravation
After the Seven Years’ War and the War of American Independence, the French state was going bankrupt. Plus, the writers of that time stated in their works that "bankruptcy" was related to despotism.
.
Public
Enlightenment
The public had a belief that their opinion and debates were equivalent to judge of state actions, and that was because of the cultural influence of the Enlightenment.
Parlements
Abolishment
Royal despotism took a leap forward when they decided to start making changes without including the parlements. Later, the public forced the crown to restore the parlements.
Resentment
Population
The french population felt a huge resentment; they were extremely discontent about the way the country was being led.
Harvest
Scarce
The french communities felt the immediate burden of a harsh winter after a poor harvest, with food stocks running low and prices in the towns rising dangerously.
Finances
Debts
A factor that led to the French Revolution was the great amount of debts that could not be payed due to the economic status of France.
Louis XVI
Decisions
He was France's king at the time and the one whose choices dragged the country into such a hard position, leading to the people's discontent.
Justice
Necessities
The french community felt thirsty for justice, and their simple material needs.
Mismanagement
Ministers
The ministers have a part of the blame too since they could have simply repudiated the debts through forms of restructuring that had been used before; but instead, they just felt compelled not to do this and that resulted in the arousal of a revolution.
Privileges
Assembly of Notables
The Assembly of Notables approved the royal reforms that were convenient to their privileged status and rejected the proposals that were against the crown.
