initially, this quotation seems like their love is ideal, but its important to consider that this is the past, that their love has long faded and even though Gatsby acts like the love is ideal, the love has already gone, and his demonstration of dedication evolves into one-sided infatuation and an inability to recognize that he cannot control or expect Daisy to feel the same. this is what makes their love unideal. Gatsby expects too much from Daisy and had their love been truly innocent and ideal, Gatsby would care about what was best for her and what she wanted; however, their whole relationship since then has been fueled by what Gatsby wants and in doing so he manipulates those around him including daisy though claiming that his devotion to daisy is love when she is just a means of getting to the status that he so wishes to gain.
