I conducted a small study about the code choice of Persians residing in the United States. To do so, I created a succinct questionnaire, in which I started by asking about some basic personal data such as age, education, and occupation. Then, the participants were asked to fill out a table in which certain domains and contexts such as a conversation with a local grocery store shop assistant were displayed, and they were asked about the language they are most likely to use in that situation, based on their actual life circumstances. I collected the data from 5 participants (all based in Los Angeles). The results were significantly in favour of Persian (Farsi) language use, with an exception of a conversation with a teacher at campus. Finally, the results confirmed my prior knowledge that the Persians in the US tend to form colonies and thus, maintain using Persian in various social domains, to a great extent. (Hossi)
Very interesting, Hossi! Well done!
