Pre-Assessment for Differenciation
Grade 3 Chinese
Module 5 Unit 4 Activity 1
For the 5 top students
Math
I will prepare some extra working sheet for problem solving questions based on multiplication and division.
Chinese
For Chinese, they will read a passage and figure out the answer by themselves. After all of them finish, they will discuss within the group and imitatively write one of their favorite paragraph.
They can write their own story or create a rhyming poem.
Create a mind map about all the poems we learned base on the seasons.
For the 5 low level students
Math
I will work with this group. I will help them to review some addition and subtractions skills and make some easy questions about the multiplication and division.
Chinese
I will prepare some basic Chinese character writing paper to ask them to trace. After they finish the tracing part, I will lead them to read some picture books and answer the questions together.
Dictation for some easy Chinese characters. And they will check their partner's work. I will also tell them what's our next lesson's character is, so that they will know the concept in advance and they will be invited to the front to be the "teacher" to teach the students the new Chinese characters.
Special Needs
Math
Prepare some Math games on the ipad and setting a longer time for them to finish.
Chinese
Disabled on the hand
We have a students who is disabled on the right hand. So for any writing he will use his left hand. For some long witting homework, he is allowed to record his thoughts
ELL students
I will prepare some picture books with pinyin on top. They can read by the help of pinyin. After they finish reading, they can write a very short summary. If they do not know how to write, they can use pinyin or record their thoughts.
English Language Learners
Have a high expectation for them.
Using easy English to explain a hard concept.
Slow down the talking speed and stop often to check their understanding.
For the 12 Middle level students
Math
For these middle level students, it will be a large group for 12 students work together. I will divide them into 2-3 groups and ask them to have a completion based on the knowledge they just learned.
Chinese
Create a mind map about all the poems we learn according to the writer's dynasty.
Draw a picture about what they've learned from the poem units.
