Resource Management, Nearly 50% of the groundwater used for the public…
Resource Management
Energy
Environmental: damaged due to global warming as fossil fuels increase CO2 emissions; environmental elements can be harnessed for energy; space required for making energy.
Social: needed for everyday life e.g. transport, domestic appliances, internet, social media.
Economic: energy powers the economy and the whole world; money can be made from fossil fuels and R&D of green technology.
Global disparity: Middle East and Africa have lots of physical resources and export to HICs rather than using to develop themselves as they are unable to manufacture it without support from HICs. HICs can afford to import and already have the infrastructure for energy.
Population increase has increased demand, however industrial decline and energy efficient appliances has reduced demand in the UK
Energy is essential for modern life. It is used to power machines that manufacture clothes, it provides heating for buildings, it provides electricity to power household appliances and is used in food preparation.
Too much reliance on fossil fuels has meant that resources are depleting, so we are now focused on investing in Green technology (renewable energy e.g. hydropower, solar and wind)
Reduction in coal due to associated health issues and smog. Increase in renewables and nuclear. Still reliant on a lot of gas,
Nuclear
There are many people who see nuclear power as a clean form of energy production and that its use will help the UK meet its CO2 emissions targets. However, there are significant risks associated with nuclear energy production including storing or disposing of radioactive waste along with the risk of meltdown.
Fracking
Drilling into the ground, and injecting high powered water into the ground to release gas from shale rock under ground.
Pros: Jobs, invests in a new form of energy education, reduces imports of gases in the UK,
Cons: minor earthquakes, uses lots of water, water can be contaminated, gas can be leaked.
Current infrastructure is reliant on fossil fuels, it is being developed to be compatible with clean renewable fuels.
Food
Social: needed for health, can reduce or increase risk of health problems; overcultivation and overgrazing.
Economic: source of income, exports and imports, trade, healthier workforce, provides jobs
Environmental: Destruction of the rainforest, desertification.
Global disparity: LICs produce most of the food, HICs consume most of the food. HICs can import food even if they cannot grow it. Sub-saharan Africa cannot afford to import, and suffer droughts so struggle to produce enough to eat or sell.
Demand has increased for products out of season e.g. people want strawberries and avocadoes all year round.
seasonal foods will only ever come out in certain times of the year due to the weather and how the product is made and where it is stored
this brings back primary factor jobs to people such like farmers and other people who collected raw materials.
this will boost the economy of the country.
agribusiness are a large scale company who grow a serious amount of crops to sell on to shops and other big places. it is very money-intensive, this leads to the farm being massive and at least 5acres.
they use the highest tech equipment to make sure all plants are perfect and ready to be dug up and sold on. this will also give the companies t a time when the plants will be the right size and to sell.
Water :
Environmental: water pollution can affect animals and plants, water needed for animals and plants; droughts due to global warming.
Social: needed for health, used for recreation, used in the household.
Economic: wastewater and water pollution as water used for industries; healthier workforce, jobs in water management.
Global disparity: water security affected by either the physical presence or ability to procure. HICs can import water even if they do not have enough physically. Sub-saharan Africa cannot afford to import, and suffers from droughts.
