Westphalia's negative issues
War
Death
During the Thirty Years War, seeing people hanged from trees, hanged upside down above a fire and being stabbed to death was a common thing.
Negotiations
Failure
Even though they took five years, the Westphalian negotiations failed to end the Franco-Spanish war that lasted until 1659.
Disaster
Nation
In the early 17th century, the German Nation only brought issues and was the disaster zone of Europe. Germany was politically fragmented, had religious issues and had their princes and bishops vying for influence.
Selfishness
Rulers
Territorial rulers refused to accept that other states protect foreign inhabitants and subjects, and that was was one of the main problems that led to the Thirty Years War.
Injustice
ius reformandi
After the religious peace, princes only tolerated difference in religion from other princes, meaning that their subjects had to adopt the same religion they had.
Religion
Intolerance
One of the root causes for the Thirty Years War was the intolerance of religion.
Assaults
Womenfolk
When men died, their womenfolk had to give something valuable in order to save their lives; if they didn't, they were assaulted and/or violated.
Consecuences
interference
the resulting war was a set of interlocking political-religious struggles at local and regional levels. These provoked and enabled extensive external interference, which in turn exacerbated and prolonged the conflict.
Destruction
Population
The war was immensely destructive: arguably the greatest trauma in German history. It resulted in an overall loss of about 40 per cent of the population, which dropped from roughly 20 million to 12 million.
Hostility
Alliances
The formation of hostile princely religious alliances was a result from the general "war in sight" atmosphere characterizing central Europe at the turn of the 17th century.
