Rotary Phone 1892
Was created to increase privacy, it was a tin box that went over the mouthpiece so no one could hear your conversation but the other person on the phone. AT&T sued the company and lost but it lead to the realization that you can so anything on a phone.
The carterfone was created by Tom carter. It connected a two way radio system to the telephone system, allowing communication by people on the radio as well as on the phone.
While earlier versions were used that required a human to connect you to the line of the person you were trying to reach the first actual rotary phone was created in 1892. These phones now had dials in which you could spin to formulate the number you wanted to call which was much more efficient.
Dataphone 1960
DynaTAC 8000x
An early version of a modem. This took the digital data from your computer and transmitted it to another telephone. This allowed for faster communication.
Nokia 1011 1992
This was the first handheld phone created in 1973 and sold in 1980. it weighed 2.2 lbs and most closely resembles out of all of the phones yet to out modern-day cell phones.
First text message 1992
The first mobile phone that had the ability to be used anywhere in the world due to its ability to connect to the GSM network which is often called 2G. Most closely resembles a modern day landline.
IBM Simon 1994
The first text message was sent by Neil Papworth to another mobile phone. This expanded the knowledge of how much a phone could do.
Nokia 9000 communicator
Widely considered the first smartphone. While this looks like a landline it was very advanced for the time. It had a touchscreen display with many apps such as: phonebook, calculator, digital calendar and much more.
Motorola Razr 2004
The first flip phone designed phone with a keyboard which was also the first phone to be able to send and receive emails. set the stage for many other duplications of this type of phone.
Apple Iphone 2007
Most popular handset to day. It was liked for its slim design and front screen also one of the first to connect to 3G. Had bluetooth, simple internet browsing, and a variety of downloadable ringtones.
Though it wasn't the first phone with a touchscreen, most of the phones up till now has a small screen as well as keyboards, this fullscreen was seen to be the most significant moment in cell phone history.
