Thermal Energy & Heat
Conduction
Is the transfer of energy as heat from one substance to another through direct contact.
Example: Touching a stove being burned
The particles spread through the object
Conductors
Is a material that transfers heat very well
Examples: Sliver , Gold, Copper
The particles are transferred into the air and make things around it warmer
Examples; When a fire is burring the heat goes out through out the house
Insulators
Is a material that is a poor conductor of heat
Examples: Wood, paper and plastic foam
The particles are contained into the object
Convection
Is the transfer of energy as heat by movement of a liquid or gas
When water boils the water moves roughly in a pattern
The particles move closer together making the water denser
Radiation
Is the transfer of energy by electromagnetic waves
