E Pak witnessed no economic growth since independence
W Pak had almost 97% Muslims, East Pak had 85% Muslims
.four W Pak provinces- Pb, Sindh, Balochistan and NW Frontier , 5th was East Pak
West used up more resources than E
from 1948-1960 - E Pak made 70% of all Pakistan's exports - but only received 25% of imported money
E Pak had the largest pop among all the provinces still had less political powers than W
Language issue - In 1948 Jinnah stated Urdu - as official language of Pak - but E Pakistani's spoke Bangla
Bhola Cyclone hit E Pak in 1970 but Pakistani ruling from W Pak did not provide enough relief
immediate cause - Avami league victory of Mujibur Rahman in 1971 national elections
Zulfikar Ali - chairman of Pak People's PArty refued to let Sheikh become PM
led to war b/w Pak Army and Bengali freedom fighters called Mukti BAhini

Pak Army encouraged Razakars (Bengalis who did not want Bangladesh to become an independent country) to suppress the rebllion
PAk launched pre-emptive air strikes against 11 Indian airbases on 3 Dec 1971
