Orchestration
The clarinet, then the flute, have the main noticeable tune which is indecisive and unsure. The use of the high woodwind creates a sense of fragility.
Strings accompanying to produce a soft, sad backing
The woodwind carry the main melody, creating an isolated and lonely feeling.
The clarinet is later used as one of the main accompaniments
The strings are mainly used for the accompaniment until quite late on in the extract where they take the main theme. This is a sad moment. The violin has a typically sad line.

Orchestration
Williams uses big, bold brass to create a powerful, epic feel. He also uses the woodwind as a layer over the top, with all parts moving very fast. The tuba, and other brass instruments, have fanfares, and the main tune itself is a fanfare.

The tune is most definitely major, and is powerful and optimistic.
