Social Media and Body Image
Negative effects of social media on body image is often not talked about since people usually don’t look at the direct correlation between the two.
Platforms such as Instagram are solely meant for photos which leads to comparison
Models and Instagram influencers can seem to be underweight and “skinny” which can lead to individuals thinking they should look like the models they see, however this is very unhealthy and can lead to harmful side effects.
I want to find specific examples of trends or models that have a negative impact on women's body image
Photo editing apps are developing at an alarming rate allowing people to only present their idealized version of themselves on social media, rather than the raw photo, leading to comparison
Leads to depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and I can't imagine what more could happen if this doesn't get under control.

If this issue isn’t addressed and solutions aren’t given, younger and younger generations will continue to be affected by this issue.
I also specifically want to focus on my generation, and women in my generation since I know from experience and talking to my friends how negatively it affects them and me.
if you own a social media platform, you are automatically allowing yourself to be exposed to this, and I think the most important aspect of my topic is that I want to do research with people my age to see how they are exposed
I personally have experienced the direct effects of social media on my own body image
I also specifically want to focus on my generation, and women in my generation since I know from experience and talking to my friends how negatively it effects them and me.
I am categorized as a woman living in Gen Z who uses social media on a daily basis, so I feel I am a good resource for this issue in figuring out how to navigate through this issue
I think my perspective is very important since I am living through social media's negative effects, and have experienced first hand what it feels like to actually have body image issues due to social media.
Resolultions to social media negatively impacting body image
Individuals need to follow more body positive accounts that promote showing their raw selves rather than an edited idealized version
People need to cut down social media time or unfollow accounts that lead to this sense of comparison
I can contribute solutions about how I overcame these negative effects, and ideas so younger generations aren't also affected like I was to this.
We are born into each and individually our own bodies, and need to love them instead of shame them our whole life.
