Mark and Derek present
Gave positive feedback on my presentation last week and for my responses to Tim in the questions
Progress with stone sampling proposal

See if continuing recording at Bath if possible
Chase up Cliveden if they do not get in touch oon
Iron Age in region
What is the chronological basis for the pottery phases?
Little recent or unified study, and associations with only broadly dated material, i.e. coinage or brooches, potentially with very broad dates
Could IA forms have co-existed with Roman ceramics for a period?
What is the relationship of potential IA production centres, e.g. south Dorset, Savernake, Shepton Mallet (?), Malvern ware with post-Conquest ceramic industries?
Get in touch with Eileen at Bournemouth as she might be able to clarify these ceramic issues
Only two IA deposits in region linked to water, namely Weston spoons and Spring Reservoir
IA coins in Spring are problematic as could have been curated. Does this imply that water deposition in IA Somerset was rare?
Is this linked to lack of marine or riverine resources systematically noted at a range of Iron Age sites?
Stone chapter progress and thoughts
Mindmap chapter structure
Would be beneficial to contain a small section on regional IA stone use
Ham Hill building stone
Querns possibly from Shepton Mallet
Was Pennant Sandstone ever used as a quern?
Iron Age stone-derived tempers
Ham Hill
Bath!
Expand on what Blagg said, does lack of Roman prospecting remain true of Gaul and Spain with present research?
If so, will be important in building the argument that Roman stone use in Britain relied on local knowledge
Interesting that there is some evidence for early long distance transport of Ham Hill stone to Colchester (possibly)
Whetstones too, and possibly slingshot
After IA stuff, develop argument and explore evidence for stone industries in Britain
Narrative vs limitations of evidence
Some IA exploitation -> Legionary development -> shift to other resources later on -> relationship with CBM industry
When and how did industries develop? Which are the key studies with evidence for this
What techniques have been applied?
Digital conferences
Exarch conference very dynamic and uses Zoom and discord for conversation, check it out!
Add key to map
Update list of sites mentioned in text so far to save time later
Integrate CBM chapter feedback
