Summary
In today's society many families are accepted such as nuclear families, same sex families and lone parent families. The idea of a family is a loving safe environment for the children to be raised and socialised into. Over time many new family types have evolved due to new laws allowing civil partnership.
Family types have changed and this has allowed more arrangements. Also the family provides many different functions.
Some socioloigists have there own ideas such as Murdock and Parsons. however these could be outdated and now we need new ideas that allow more diversity.
