key concepts

space-

the ay things are arranged on the earths surface

place-

part of the world given meaning.

interconnection-

the links between people and places

change-

what is happening around us, how the world is developing.

environment-

the living and non-living components and elements that make up an area and how it is organised into a system

sustainability-

developing ways to ensure resources are available for the next generation.

BIOMES

biome- areas on the earth with similar climates, animals and vegetation

terrestrial

desert- extremely hot and dry small shrubs little animals

grasslands- big open spaces, between deserts and forests, high range of animals and mainly dominated by shrubs and tall grasses.

boreal- cold and wet with evergreen trees, low population of animals due to low shrub and icey ground

temperate- average temperature, forest creatures and large percent populated by human life

tropical- wet and humid, lush plant and animal life.

tundra- cold short growing seasons, low level of plant and animal life

mountian vegetation- cold and windy low lying vegetation small animals

polar lands- very cold and dry very little animal and plant life.

aquatic

freshwater- low levels of salt soem animals and aquatic plant life

marine- three zones

lattitude and longitude

longitude- lines that symbolically run east to west on the earths surface

latitude- lines that symbolically run north to south on the earths surface

food security-

a state where all people at all times have enough safe, nutritious food to sustain a healthy life. *

requires-

food accessibility- ohysical and economic access to food

food availability- enough food of appropriate quality

knowledge and resources-

interconnections-

place- no places is alone everything is connected

physical- natural. eg. rivers

cultural- built by man. eg. sky scrapers

our connection to place:

influenced by-

age

ethinicity/culture

gender

time

alone or in a group

level of ability

four catergories

spirirtual- factors relating to a persons beliefs

economic- factors relating to emplyment and income

cultural- factors relating to shared characteristics

historical- factors relatoing to past experience

biofuels-

is when land is used to make petrol and gases for technology instead of being used for food

barriers to food production

  • Water scarcity- the lack of access to enough water

  • Climate change- long term changes in weather events and patterns worldwide

  • Threats from non-native species- use up resources for other native vegetation/animals

  • Competition for land- low amounts to grow for buildings

  • Land for fuel instead of food- gases released and toxins lkill plant life and surroundings.

  • Armed conflict- famine, stolen, land destroyed or owners going to fight, leaving no one to grow crops.

how biomes affect food security-

aral sea- the aral sea was one of the main food siurces for the people living in kazakstahn and uxbekestan. however the water from the sea was redirected further south, leaving the once aral sea to dry up tghrough a process called desertifictaion.

the affect of these on the environment-

biofuels-

climate change-

climate change means that their is going to be a hotter climate. this menas that the rate of transpiration and evaporation will increase and crops will require more water. therefire the more wtaer we have to use the more likelt we are at the risk of water scarcity.

biofuels-

the prices of food are going to be higher as the use of the fertile land is being used for fuel. Meaning that companies will have to grow produce on land that is rare and more expensive.

tourism

Tourism in Australia is one of the most booming economy. It employs over 660 000 citizens. the money that is made from this goes to helping with the import and export business in Australia. We use this money to pay and buy food. This therefore makes the tourism economy interconnected with the import export business and our personal wellbeing as citizens.

food insecurity

when any of the three criterias aren't met.

solutions

water scracity-

recycling water

deselation plants

climate change

using less biofuels

using more plants based and natural energy such as solar

threats from non-native plants

using fences for anuimaos and using tight restrictions to prevent anythign being brought in

using land for fuel instead of food

using zoning

copetition for land
